For those that are baking this holiday season, or any time really, I wanted to share a cake recipe that I used before I switched to scratch. This is a perfectly delicious cake, moist and more dense than a box cake.
Prepare cake mix per package directions and then add:
1 egg
1 cup flour
1 cup white sugar
8 oz. sour cream
1/3 tsp salt
1 tsp vanilla
Bake per package directions.
It's as easy as that! It gives you a bit more batter and the sour cream adds moistness, but not really any flavor, so don't worry if you aren't a big fan of sour cream. You can also add in your favorite holiday spices (cinnamon, pumpkin pie spice, etc.) to give it a more holiday feel.
